A Simple Life Is Not an Empty Life

August 18, 2026

There is a difference between having a simple life and having a small life.

A simple life can contain ambition, curiosity, work, family, money, travel, mistakes and big dreams. The difference is that you become more selective about what deserves your attention.

The older I get, the less interested I am in collecting things merely because everyone else is collecting them.

I would rather have fewer commitments that matter, fewer possessions that need attention, and more time to think.

Simple does not mean easy

In fact, simplicity often requires difficult decisions. Saying no is harder than saying yes. Walking away is harder than staying. Ignoring noise is harder than consuming it.

But once the unnecessary things disappear, life has more room for the important ones.
